Everyone put in a full day today. Lots of painting, collating, binding, and the beginning of the after school program. We started painting the last interior room we are doing. Some of the guys worked on the exterior for the entire day. They are making great progress on that. The painting is way ahead of schedule. We’ve been washing all the curtain as we go, and the wonderful young woman who cleans the guest house has been ironing them for us. Her name is Katrina and she does an amazing job, and is a lovely Christian woman.

The after school program went very well. Julie taught the lesson to three different groups of kids. She is using materials on “the colors” presenting the gospel message: many of you are probably familiar with that. She said the high schoolers asked a lot of good questions and really participated. Calvin and Chad took care of outdoor games. The kids really enjoyed playing a game called “American Eagle.” Bekah and Lisa took care of crafts. All the age groups decorated foam door hangers. They all seemed to enjoy that, although our tiny room was really crowded with about 25 kids in each of 3 groups.

Calvin explained what each food was before we ate it. |
In the evening, we got to visit Pastor Paul & Febbe Makai for a traditional African meal. They showed us how to wash our hands before and after eating (so we could eat with our fingers, if we wished). We had civundu, ntsitu, ntsompo, vuihua and mutete. The Makai’s are Zambian, so they joked about serving us Zambian food in Namibia. Such gracious and kind people! It was a joy to spend time in their home and to pray with them. We especially enjoyed seeing Chad model a Herero head dress! (I was nice enough not to post a picture yet, haha!)
Please pray for our stamina, as we have all been working very hard. But we thank God every day that we are here and are able to be involved in such amazing projects. The best part is the people we meet every day. God has placed a lot of very dedicated, hard-working people in Namibia-- from Namibia itself and from all over the world. Pray for them too.
Lisa, I am super impressed with how hard you are working and yet you are keeping us updated all the time. You rock, girl! I pray for you all daily and pray you are being strengthened in Christ. May your lives be an encouragement to those you come into contact with, and may their lives encourage you all as well... iron sharpening iron idea. :)
ReplyDeleteLove and miss you!
No need to apologize for jumbled pictures and texts. They are perfect! Lisa, you need to pursue writing a book when you get back and include these blogs. Thanks for keeping us informed, I know better how to pray and I sort of feel like I am there, or at the least-involved. We are keepin' you all empowered by our prayers. Bruce
